5 App-Enabled Baby Monitors That Work With iOS Devices

While baby monitors have been around for years, the next generation takes the concept ultra-mobile, with app-enabled solutions that work wirelessly with iOS devices.

We're taking a look at five such solutions that offer remote monitoring from your iPhone or iPad, letting you listen to, see and even talk to your baby from elsewhere.

1. Withings Smart Baby Monitor


The Smart Baby Monitor from Withings hooks up to your iOS and Android devices to give you a clear view of your baby from afar, complete with pan, tilt and zoom functions.

The monitor gives you audio, high-res video, night vision, and alerts for noise, motion, temperature and humidity.

You can also talk to your baby through the system, play one of seven pre-loaded lullabies and even turn on a nightlight.

2. Philips InSight Wireless Home Monitor


Philip's wireless home monitor system comprises of a minimum of two video monitors that hook up to your Wi-Fi to show you what's happening in your home from anywhere in the world.

You can view your monitors via any browser, as well as the dedicated iOS app which supports up to 16 monitors.

Features include built-in noise and motion detection with push phone alerts and the ability to upload recordings to a Dropbox account.

3. Belkin WeMo Baby


WeMo Baby doesn't offer video, but high-quality audio from your baby's room direct to your iPod touch, iPhone or iPad.

Promising simple set-up, the system connects to your home Wi-Fi network, you just need to download the companion app to get started.

An optional in-app upgrade gives you text and call notifications if the baby cries and boasts analysis of sleep and crying patterns to offer advice.

4. BabyPing


The BabyPing camera uses your home Wi-Fi network to let you see and hear your baby on your iOS device while you're in range of the house, and then 3G, 4G or other Wi-Fi networks if you're out and about.

With automatic "invisible" nightvision you can carry on viewing your little one when it gets dark and get audio, vibrate or on-screen alerts when they cry.

5. iBaby Monitor - M3


The iBaby solution is a swiveling and pivoting camera that you can control either via PC software or the free iOS app.

As well as control the direction of the camera, you can listen to your baby's room, talk via the unit, take still photos and get alerts for motion and/or noise.

The M3 system can support up to four devices with up to four users sharing control.
